Lynn Mertz grew up on Higgins Lake, only a few hours East of Manistee, before spending 8 years at Michigan State University. She graduated with both a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Education before moving back up north to the Grand Traverse Area in 2007 with her husband. The years between then and now have been spent well, growing her family to include 2 outgoing and sweet boys. Lynn spent 3 and a half years at home with her children before returning to work as a substitute teacher. She also spent one year as a Kindergarten Teacher in a nearby school district. During this time, she has also been attending Grand Valley State University and will receive her Master’s in Education at the completion of Summer 2016. This is her first year with CASMAN, and she is excited to become a part of this community.
Lynn and her family share their home with two cats and a Greyhound, who is basically a 90 lb cat. Living near water, trees, and hills are a necessity for her and she and her family could not imagine a more beautiful place to live than this corner of Michigan. She spends her summers playing in the lake with her kids, sewing, crocheting, and finding a new hobby to learn. Her next goal is to learn French! Developing and fostering curiosity are among the most important traits she hopes to pass on to students. By being curious about our world and confident enough to seek out the answers, we continue to learn and grow our whole lives.
